Nguyen, Nam Loc

Abstract

Nam Loc Nguyen discusses his involvement as director for the Immigration and Refugee department for Catholic Charities, in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He begins with the story of how he, himself, was a refugee that fled from Saigon on April 27, 1975. He was processed through Guam, where he worked and gained experience resettling fellow refugees. He reflects on all aspects of the refugee experience, including the first migrations of Vietnamese families, including his, from the North to the South, the difficult conditions that everyday civilians had to endure during the war and subsequent secondary migrations of individuals and families by foot, by plane or by boat.
