Phan, Chris
Abstract
Chris Phan was born in the Vinh Long province in Vietnam. His dad and uncles had been involved in the military or politics in South Vietnam, but after 1975, his family was forced to move to a rural area during the land reforms. He remembers that his grandmother had the foresight to bury gold and money across their land in order to survive during that time. His father escaped Vietnam and after eight years was able to sponsor the family moved to Indiana in 1981. He is an attorney by profession and was elected to the Garden Grove City Council in 2012. He currently serves as Orange County Deputy District Attorney, in addition to a United States Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps Officer, and a university law professor. He was a founding member of the Vietnamese American Armed Forces Association.
